Re: The Official Rant Thread
Open Sunfish to do work: been spending hours just figuring out what was used, where, and how. Wish I had been more dutiful with commenting my code and factoring out code that I was planning on getting rid of. The most annoying thing right now I've come across is my tag_block class is pretty complicated and self-contained: which is fine because it works. But then because I wanted to optimize for speed I made a method to create shallower copies of just the layout from these tag_blocks without all the extra processing they do, and then pass that along to another function to do with as it wills. Not exactly OO. O well, making headway again, going to spend a few days just commenting and cleaning before I get back into the swing of things. Let's see if this recent gurgle of life from Halo 2 cannot move onto a titch or spasm.

Re: The Official Rant Thread
I've been doing a lot of research into how the halo 2 vista tool set works with tags, various data types, and how it manages runtime resources. I'm also starting to really appreciate the work kornman has done in his BlamLib library. Mutation won't be moving forward for a while as I still have a lot of work to do in h2guerilla to figure out how a couple of these data types work. I'm also revising some previous work I did with ripping the tag_group definitions from guerilla, so keep an eye out for some information in the halo 2 modding section soon (if you're an end user it will be almost 100% useless to you).JacksonCougar wrote:Open Sunfish to do work: been spending hours just figuring out what was used, where, and how. Wrote a bunch of code in C# to dump the tag_group_definitions from h2guerilla, once again, and realized it would have been easier to write it in C++ and load it as a dll at runtime. Oh well.

Re: The Official Rant Thread
So I purchased a Diamond Radeon HD 7850 2GB 2 weeks ago. I've had the card for about a week and I have this annoying problem with it. My screen flickers and has horizontal lines scrolling up and down when doing anything that uses 3D. It also causes my microphone to give off this high pitch whine. I tried contacting diamond 4 days ago, haven't got a response back. On their site it says to contact them if I do not receive a response in 48 hours. I would call them but I just got a cold and I can barely talk. Every other word comes out silent...
Now I know how to fix the the flickering, I need to disconnet the ground pin on the Analog part of the DVI connector and connect it to a different ground or use a diode. Thing is this was a $180 graphics card and it should not of had this problem from the start, and I will still have the whining sound afterwards, unless of course I do the same to the sound card's mic jack...

That doesn't sound healthy at all: isn't there some fix for the card itself so it stops spewing current everywhere?

Generics and Interfaces in C#. Not sure if I like the fact I'm using them everywhere now. On one hand I can do some cool things, on the other hand... I don't know if I trust myself to code well enough to use them.

Red Bull is about 50¢ in Vietnam. Now I don't even have prohibitive prices stopping me from consuming too many.

I'm approaching 6 hours worth of work to try and compile a simple x86 asm file that has like 3 instructions into a binary file. Fuck you masm, ml.exe and microsoft

I miss when I told myself to be super lazy and made Sunfish. Trying to maintain shared meta and unions between extraction and injection is a pain in the ass.

Fwiw, I can think of times when I definitely do and do not want meta sharing preserved. I almost always don't want it shared, but then I don't do much vehicle modding.

Just me playing around with C# for now. Might do something more with it related to halo 2 depending on how I like the resultCaptainPoopface wrote:Fwiw, I can think of times when I definitely do and do not want meta sharing preserved. Edit: spend two pretty solid days coding one way of handling data: then think of another way I could do it and I'm all; 'O shiny!', so now I think I am going to re-code all my work from the past few days. Not too sad about that though. The code was bloat and not nice. Story of my programming life: never happy with my code, always looking for ways to make it nicer, results in me never actually getting any progress done. I hope one day I learn enough that I can release a program again :p

Re: The Official Rant Thread
Doing 60 in a 55 taking gf home after a long day.
A Mercedes starts tailgating me. He's so close I can't see his headlights. "Take a picture of my ass, you're close enough to kiss it!"
After about 5 seconds he's still on my bumper.
"Ya know what, you want to tailgate me?" [takes foot off gas] "You can tailgate me all the way to zero" I let the car gradually slow down. All the while he maintained 1-2ft distance from me.
He didn't switch lanes until I was doing 30 in that 55. He speeds off, I gradually reattain 60.

Been looking for two particular functions in the halo 2 pc guerilla application for a few days now. Still have not found them
Guess I need to do some more digging.
