[App] I Can Has Squares!?

Post by Yamagushi »

I Can Has Squares!?
Yes, Yes you can.

For those who don't already know this is custom rectangles of any size with working phmo and coll.

App made by OwnZ joO
Original research by Neodos
Research simplyfied by Yamagushi

Image

How-to;
Step one, open your map in Entity and build in the included MACH. Close Entity

Step two, Open I Can Has Squares. Open you map.

Step three, scroll down to and select "scenarios\multi\yamagushi\1x1x1box\1x1x1box"

Step four, Enter the Length Width and Height of the intended size.

Step five, Click Save.

Step Six(Optional), If you need to make more squares you will need to Duplicate and relink the mach, hlmt, coll, mode, and phmo(shad and bitm optional but if u want a skin recommended). The new MODE, PHMO, and COLL tags MUST have the same names as each other! If they do not all have the same tag names this app will not detect them properly!

Thats all there is too it. Enjoy.

P.S. Read the File comment.

I was just thinking about what kind of BSPs I'd like to build. Too bad I hate skinning.

Very nice app.

EDIT: Here's an idea. How about somebody make several parallelepipeds of various dimensions, skin them, put them on a small BSP with everything but the sky nulled out (maybe the mainmenu BSP), then distribute it on Remnant, and we all make our own map out of it? It would be like map building with Legos. For example, there could be:
6 flat wall/floor pieces
10 long pillar-type beams
10 short beams
10 big cubes
15 medium cubes
15 small cubes

Or just throw each of these objects onto the mach palette and let people build whatever they want. Each phmo/coll/mode dimension should be an even multiple of 0.5 so that things can be made exactly flush with each other in the Entity BSP Viewer. Maps like Beaver Creek, Warlock, and a mini-Tombstone could be built like this. I think it would be swell, especially if we could start with a base map that has very large mach and bloc placement palettes.

Building with BSP viewer isnt very successful. I suggest plotting out on paper what you want to do then do the math to figure out the xyz etc of everything. Remember the distance between one item and another is (The distance from each other + 1/2 width of each of the two objects.) Also with Yaw, Pitch, and Roll, 90 degrees = 1.5707963, 180 degrees = 3.14159265.

i got 1.5707963267948966
Your both wrong, that number goes on forever

but i guess that you rounded? or Entity doesn't take all of those digits.

coordinate units.
They have no actual predetermined length.

But in Halo, its about 2 for the Warthog, bumper to ... er ...winch.
About 0.7 for the standing height of the MC.

I forgot pi goes on forever. Wow.

Oh well. My calculator would only go up to 17 digits anyway ... (hate math)

that would be 0.7 from foot to head, yes? Hmmmm which is a little less than a 1:10 ratio :?

Funny, most of the weapons and vehicles r 1:2 and 1:3 scale from full size :p

Like DS said, 0.7 is about the size of master chief standing, which is about 7 feet. So about a 1:10 ratio. Not 1:2 or 1:3. That would be FAR too big.

No, it seems dif things have dif ratios, maybe the biped is 1:10, but the pistol and sword (i think) r 1:2, most of the other weapons r 1:3, vehicles also 1:2 ;)

Would it be possible to make an app that would fit these squares to a bsp model? Not perfectly, but at least to an extent that it could be edited to work well.

This already can be done, just edit a square to be a flat plate and then make some walls ;)

I could probably do it eventually, idk... But I haven't coded at all since making this so it probably won't ever be done... At least this speeds up the time it would take you to do it :XD:

This app doesn't support that, just stretching out cubes.

But an app that included yaw, pitch, and roll for planes, etc., would be interesting. ;)
