Re: The Official Rant Thread

My friend owns an iPhone and he installed the iOS 7 beta on it and I got to see iOS 7 for the first time. I don't think I've ever been this mad at Apple. Here we have Apple with all of their glass and shiny buttons, app icons, etc. go for a flat, simple approach. This is ridiculous and makes me laugh because they have always been all "shiny." It couldn't be too obvious that this flat and simple appearance was because of the Windows 8 UI, Windows Phone UI, and the Android UI. The "quick settings" and redesigned app switcher just screams "copied from android." This is exactly why I hate Apple. Instead of making something "revolutionary" they just copy something, slap an apple logo on it and call it "new technology." If you are going to copy something, at least make it unique, and better than what it was copied from. Fuck apple. The part that really, reallly pisses me off the most is that Apple, and their brainwashed customers will be quick to point at other phone and software manufacturers and say that their stealing their ideas, but they are going to copy these design elements and software tricks without changing it. On the iPhone you access the quick settings by swiping up from the bottom, while on pure stock Android 4.2, you swipe with two fingers from the top to access this. Luckily everyone I talk to who owns an iPhone would prefer a Microsoft Surface (or other Windows Tablet) over the iPad.

Here are the comparisons between the quick settings:

Well there's my rant. Sorry if I offended anyone who is a loyal Apple customer, but please, there are much better choices for you.

Between those two screens, I'd have to say the Apple version looks more appealing at a glance. On the other hand, I hate fake glare and gel buttons and the translucent plastic candy look that Apple has infested our graphic culture with, so I'm ready for the new awful, whatever it may be.

I recently had a conversation about how there is this belief that having an Iphone is a status symbol and this individual was upset that they were making them cheaper for everyone to have. This person didn't want to make the phone accessible to others. Man, people who are victim to buying things for the status symbol make me lose faith in humanity. We are always looking to be better than others. We are always looking to get more attention for our abilities. Is humility even natural to humanity? Was humility ever natural to humanity? Or is humility something we manufactured?

Rant...to be continued.

Summary: Fight bullshit marketing.

A little late to reply but YO SAME CITY. Planning to transfer to UT in spring though! Dunno how confident I am about it, was rejected out of high school lol.

Rant of the message, I can't seem to find a niche in the world where I'm comfortable. Tired of Houston (fantastic city though), but I really enjoyed my visits to Austin. Probably shouldn't get my hopes up, but crossing fingers!

No way! Very cool man! Houston is a great city so far, and I think I like it as much or better than Austin. Austin, TX in my view is a city where a lot of people go to find themselves. There is a lot of prosperity there that keeps the city thriving but there are also a lot of young adults (hipsters & college students) that make the city seem so naive, unproductive, and laidback. It's a weird dynamic going on in Austin. The social atmospheres are often awkward and pretentious. Houston so far is great because, although I'm sure they have their fair share of hipsters and college students, they don't seem so predominant as Austin. The social atmosphere is less pretentious and more welcoming. Houston in my view is a city where people go to work and get shit done. I see Austin as the city people go to just be. I really like both cities, don't get me wrong. I think I've been trying to pinpoint why I like Houston more and this post has helped, whether my view is naive, biased, or whatever. I'm probably a bit biased in my views, but so far I'm loving Houston and not missing Austin.

Also, a little side note, I got denied from UT out of high school too! I studied my ass off and got a 3.67 at Texas State University and then transferred into the school. I know you can do it man! Former Modders are smart pepes! :)

Came here to get some H2 stuff, since I got in H2 mood. Saw all the links were down with a HostMonster error page.

Then I remembered when I hosted on HostMonster and they told me the same thing. "We aren't a filehost, you can't host files here".

I assume so: I've not received anything from the hosting company about it and they appear to be in their directories.

Cut my finger on some sharp metal at work and finger was dripping blood and I passed out and cut my wrist on a table and hit my cheek on the ground. Now my cheek, knee, and elbow are swollen.

Well.. It's really close to my house and it pays well. But there is a lot to learn. Especially since I have no experience with tools haha. Core cutting, core drilling, base cutting, base gluing, base assembly, edge bending, edge installing, edge gluing, side stick cutting, sidestick gluing, material cutting, board band sawing, base grinding, side routing, side grinding, side grinding again, insert drilling, stone grinding.

But it's good.

Ruined a paralympic's snowboard while building it last week. Had to be cut in half in order to find out what happened. Had to completely re make the board.

Was driving home the other night going about 40 mph in snow and a gust of wind came and made my car lose traction and I drove into a ditch that was about 5 feet deep. Car is trashed and now I need to buy a new one..

So I recently started poking through some old source codes I had laying around wondering how to go about starting up an old project and I've come to two firm opinions: doing binary reading with standard C++ libraries and files (that I know of) is a huge main in the cock; and the other is that doing any serious graphics work with C# is a serious pain in the cock.
And I've thought of toying with the idea of doing the 3d work all unmanaged and the file binary work managed; but that's a pain in the ass.

I've decided to go with C++ and native OpenGL simply because it is outside of my area of knowledge and I want this project to be about learning. Not simply rehashing the same things over again. I do however rather miss the .NET libs

@Jackson: I think I've shown you this before but: http://www.opentk.com/project/opentk lets you use opengl with C#.Net

I ran into a situation almost immediately where the framework was simply eating errors that were being thrown. I know I could use it and I still might, but I prefer to try learning something new.

Opengl doesnt throw errors...
You have to check the result of the function you call.

No, it swallowed other errors. Basically I had a typo in a file-name and instead of throwing an exception for filenotfound, it died quietly and continued the program. It was enough to throw me off wanting to use it, and besides I'm learning more new stuff now about C++ then I would ever have otherwise.

I wholeheartedly regret not documenting all the shit I was researching. Looking at old source code and trying to remember where things are in a map and why the fuck we need magic to find it... I feel like I'm at working right now since we use a lot of magic there as well..
Don't snort the magic, we need it for the network.
