SCS: Scenery Chunk Saver

Post by JacksonCougar »

SCS :: Scenario Chunk Saver v1.0
  • What it does: saves the meta for the chunk of a scenario placement reflexive into a file and allows you to build it into another map's scenario.

Intended use: to save placements for easy retrieval in-case of map failure.
We all know that getting the perfect coordinates can be the most time-consuming thing about a full map mod! This application is aimed at taking care of that problem.
  • Instructions:
Always start by opening a halo 2 map in the application.

Saving: Select a placement reflexive from the list, fill in the chunks that you want (0 and 7 will result in it saving chunks 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7). Finally hit "Add Meta" to add it to the preview list (clicking more then once will append the list, not make a new one!). Press "Save Meta" to save the chunks in the preview box to a file.

Writing: Go to the "Inject Meta" tab and press the 'Browse' button to select the .ecm (entity chunk meta) file you want to attempt to write to the map you have open. select the range of chunks you want to write to (the values work the same as when saving). If you select less chunks then the .ecm file contains the application will write as many chunks as it can in order of how they appear in the file.

Remember to resign your map :P

He he he woops. Umm... update soon. Clear Meta does not actually clear the meta being written to the file in this build.

Oookay: largish update!

Basically I added detailed help documentation! Go to File -> Help -> Contents to view new help topics!
I also added more setting's option for how the application previews the Chunk Meta: try out the different settings: they yield different preview results, and speeds!

New Version's up! Get it above!

So can this be used to clone chunks, or is this just for overwriting them?

This application will save the chunks data, like X, Y, Z coords; Y, P, R rotations, and any other data the chunk contains into a text file. You can then use that data and overwrite the values of another chunk.

It's the equivalent of you copying the values into notepad, and pasting them by hand into another chunk and hitting save.

Thanks for the feedback guys, if you have any other small apps that you would like to see talk to me on AIM, I am sort of looking for ideas...

Nothing complex though :\ I do not know enough, just small drone tasks.

So it would be like using entity's chunk cloner to overwrite chunks, except it work right?

Can you explain how this is different from Entity's "Fix SLC" button?

It generates a random number for each item in the spawning reflexive so that the object will show up on a client-xbox properly. Fixing SLC in entity I believe only generates predicted resources for the scenario tag at the bottom, which too is needed for everything to work right.

EDIT: This app actually has nothing to do with SLC, what are you smoking doorman?

OHhhhhhh MAN! I read all of the posts and instructions and was trying to find out what this did. Thanks for the clarification, and I hate to admit that I wasn't smoking anything, ha. I wasn't piecing together the puzzle correctly.

I'll chug a beer instead of roll a joint, if you're all cool with that. :p

Ok, so my next question is, should there be a chunk saver for objects, itmc, and everything else possible? (that way an entire spawn mod could be saved incase of an accident?) :D
